Hannamans Pre-Delivery Forklift Inspections Process
Before we send any of our hire trucks out to customers we always complete a pre-delivery inspection. Our pre-delivery forklift inspections are carried out according to a thorough checklist to make sure that all aspects of the truck’s safety features are checked.
Standard Checks
Our experienced engineers check the following on all forklifts before sending out for hire:
- Check fluid levels (oil, water, and hydraulic fluid, for example)
- Check for leaks, cracks and visible defects everywhere on the forklift
- Check mast chains visually; avoid the use of hands
- Test mast chain tension by lifting the load backrest to eye level—the mast chains should be level and any tilting may signify stretching or broken rollers
- Check tyre condition, and pressure, and look for any cuts or gouges
- Determine fork condition, remembering to check the top clip retaining pin and heel
- Ensure load backrest extension functions properly
- Check the functionality of finger guards
- Ensure safety decals and nameplates are legible and match the forklift model
- Check that the operators’ manual and log book are present and legible
- Ensure the operators’ manual compartment is clean of debris
- Test all functional safety devices, such as seat belts and horns
- Check the brakes, steering controls and other operational items for proper function
Extra Checks
Depending on the model of the truck there can sometimes be certain extra features that must be checked. Given that we work with nearly all types of forklifts our engineers know instinctively which additional checks must be made to which type of truck.
In addition to the above checks on ‘traditional’ forklifts we also have checklists for electric equipment. Some of these can include:
- There are no fraying or exposed wires in cables or connectors
- Battery restraints are functional
- Electrolyte levels are proper
- The hood latch is operational
